Everlast is an app designed for Alzheimer’s patients. I believe that some memories never fade and we can use the power of technology to help the patients to store their precious memories. Project Development
The inspiration of everlast comes from my grandma‘s neighbor. She is at the moderate stage of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). Grandma tells me the disease has placed greate stress to her neighbor’s family because of the symptoms of the disease. After that, I start to understand AD. After reading lots of researches and stories from the families with Alzheimer’s, I have a deeper understanding of the world of AD. I hope to use my effort to help the families in need. I hope to keep the connection between the patients and the loved ones. I want to use this app to help people with AD to live with more dignity and keep connecting with society. AD patients can be and should be understood and accepted by more people.
Research
My research starts from learning more about the disease. I read lots of professional research and collect data about AD. This part of research makes me understand the universality and severity of AD in the United States. Also, having a deeper understanding of the different stages and symptoms of AD, I have a clearer direction of what stage of patients can be the app users and what functions my app need to include to help them.
During research, I’ve collected stories and interviews from different AD families. These families talk about the difficulties they are having and their hopes to the future life. They also share suggestions for how to improve patients life and how to better accommodate to the situation. Based on these families, I create two characters to further the analysis of the user needs.
Sketch
The targeted users for the app are Alzheimer’s patients who are in the mild and moderate stages. Since most patients are elderly people, I’m using simple and clear pages that are easy to use and I’m choosing large font to make sure the readability of the contents. I hope this app can be useful for the patients to sustain their normal life and for the caregivers to release some pressures. The general idea of the function design is mainly based on the memory book which can helps patients to record their valuable memories and the daily schedule which can helps patients and caregivers to note down special events and daily tasks.
Design

For the everlast app, color tone and font are important because the AD patients are easier to have recognition disability. Therefore, to ensure the readability, I’ve researched on the UX for AD patients. I learn that contrasting colors are easier for the patients to recognize the sans-serif font is more readable for them. Also, the smallest font size they can read is 12pt. Therefore, I use orange and blue as the main colors and light green as the background color to create a comfortable and relaxed feeling.
Function
There are mainly four functions on everlast: To Do, Memory Book, About Me, and Contact. To Do is mainly designed to notice patients their daily tasks and special events. Memory book is for patients and their families to create and store their memorable times together through images and music. About Me is for patients to record something important about themselves because sometimes they may forget themselves. Contact is mainly for patients to call their friends or families.
