I saw there are many vendors selling goods like snacks and beverage but there was no vendor that cares about people’s emotions. We are now living in a world where material need is always the first and sometimes we ignore our emotional experience. To make it easy to use, I make the both component and the user flow of the machine simple.&nbsp; Like traditional vendors, the user needs to insert coin and push button to start the machine. I use the light in the machine and the text on the screen to tell users the changes of scenario. The userflow is separated into two parts: the physical interaction and the screen flow. What mood users will get from the machine is unexpected. Field Trip An excited part for this project is the material preparation. I went to the largest electronic market in China “Hua Qiang Bei” to learn and choose different components. The most important thing for the weight sensor is finding the calibration_ factor that able the sensor toread the weight correctly. I test out the weight value for each coin is 6-7 grams. I used the readings of coin’s weight to contro the LED light in the arcade button.&nbsp; For the strip, I choose WS2812B LED strip and import FastLED.h library. The color of the led will change as it reads the change from the button state. There are four states of the strip to indicate four different screen scenes.&nbsp; Machine Building: Visual Effect I design a series of mood icons for the machine. When the user pushes the button and starts the machine, they will see a random scrolling icons. I use random for the scrolling mood and second() to make sure the state of the given mood being remembered. So, when the user push the button and the mood is given, the machine will remember the mood corresponding to the current second. Therefore, I choose an empty space to present my project. When they enter the space, it feels like they are entering the unknown universe. Audience will have their own interaction and conversation within the space. My setting for the showcase space is simple. I use a white wall for projection and I put two acrylic caps and a set of speakers to ensure the sound experience of the audience. For the acrylic caps, audience can choose to sit on them or wear them like astronauts. In my grandpa ‘s hometown, people used sorna at dfferent scenes like weddings or harvest celebration. However, in today’s China, we seldom hear sorna because there are less people learn and pass this skill and it is going to lose. Song of the Phoenix is one of the most famous sorna song in China and there is a film published in 2016 in the same name. I am inspired by this film as it talks about how elder people in China try their best to pass sorna to younger people and tell them the importance of passing valuable Chinese traditions. Therefore, I hope to seek a combination between technology and music to give this traditional sorna piece new energy. &nbsp;Also, through this project, I want to explore the significance of media art in inheritance and innovation. Background Sorna is the most national reed instrument in China. Although this instrument was introduced to China from Arabia, Chinese people learn the sorna and make it popular especially in the rural areas. Song of the Phoenix is one of the most famous sorna works that interprets the expressiveness of sorna to an extreme and it includes the most comprehensive techniques of sorna art. The performer is in the beautiful scene of stability and harmony and the chorus of birds, expressing people's love for the harmony and beauty of nature and their longing for a better life. Based on the rhythms and emotions of the song, I’ve separate it into eight chapters and each chapter has its unique scene. Storyboard Song of the Phoenix is showing the vibrant natural scene through the lively and cheerful tune. The story throughout the song is presenting the coming of spring and the birds playing in the forest with the phoenix. Each chapter has its own rhythm style and specific meaning of the scene. When the audience is watching the sound visualization, they are entering the plot the song. The song is presenting the happiness of harvest and the coming of spring. In China, when we are celebrating festivals, we like to use totem like xiangyun (祥云) to indicate the wish of good luck. In China, we like to use gold to draw the phoenix bird because it is mythological and it is the queen of all birds. I use the p5.FFT, p5.SoundFile and p5. Amplitude to analyze the sound. The visual elements like the arcs and the birds will move based on the values extracted from the analysis. After that, I start to understand AD. After reading lots of researches and stories from the families with Alzheimer’s, I have a deeper understanding of the world of AD. I hope to use my effort to help the families in need. I hope to keep the connection between the patients and the loved ones. I want to use this app to help people with AD to live with more dignity and keep connecting with society. I read lots of professional research and collect data about AD. This part of research makes me understand the universality and severity of AD in the United States. Therefore, to ensure the readability, I’ve researched on the UX for AD patients. I learn that contrasting colors are easier for the patients to recognize the sans-serif font is more readable for them. Also, the smallest font size they can read is 12pt.
